Health is a very subjective term and it can often get very confusing as to what is healthy and what is not. Do not go by the packaging alone as they can make products sound healthier than they normally are. A checklist to tell us what exactly to eat could be a great start! Finding what food is good for the body requires some amount of effort and we are generation that wants things quick and easy!

So hey, we’ve found some middle ground here. We’ve done some ground work and put together a cheat sheet for you that will help you understand what you should be eating and what you should be avoiding.

Know your body type - What is healthy for me, need not be healthy for you. And that is why it’s all the more important to define the meaning of healthy for you. Each person has a different body type that requires different nutrition. Your food intake should depend on whether you are lean and long or muscular and well-built. It should depend on your metabolism and not what brands think is healthy for you. Take the first step to identify what body type you fall into and plan your food accordingly.

Know your sensitivities – Once you know your body type, the next step is to identify what foods you are sensitive to. Does yogurt give you a cold or are you someone who feels heavy after drinking milk. Are you allergic to peanuts or are you gluten sensitive? Identify these red flags and incorporate them in your daily diet to start eating healthy.

Have you read the ingredients list yet? – We’d say do not buy a product without looking at the ingredient list. It is said that, the shorter an ingredient list, the better the food. Long ingredients list can often camouflage harmful substances present in the food. Lookout for artificial products and unfamiliar ingredients. It’s a red flag that you may want to avoid.

The labels are your best friend - It is imperative to read and understand the labels before you if you are buying processed foods. Read the nutrition fact labels. Look at the serving size, calories, fiber, sodium and sugar levels. All these are an indicator of how healthy the foods are. These are the numbers that provide the most information about whether or not a food is healthy.  Base your portion sizes on these nutritional facts.

Always compare – If you have the option of comparing products, please do. Read the labels, carefully, avoid blindly trusting words like “natural”, “no additives”, etc. Look at products that suit your body type better than the other. You know what suits your body the best.

Surprise Surprise! If you are someone who takes this very seriously, we’ve made life much easier for you. We have partnered with Plan My Food, an AI-based app that tells you not just what’s healthy for you, but how healthy. Food isn’t just calories.
